If you’re an engineer or a procurement professional evaluating TDK today, here’s my advice:

  • Don’t assume you know their product range. Their website has a decent parametric search. Use it.
  • Ask for cross-references. If you’re using a competitor’s inductor, see if TDK has a pin-compatible alternative. It might not be better—but it could be a viable back-up.
  • Look at system-level solutions. If you need a filter + power module + protection, see if you can get them all from one stable. It reduces qualification time.
  • Check TDK-Lambda separately. The power supply division operates somewhat independently, but the cross-pollination of engineering knowledge is real.

Here’s the thing: I’m not saying TDK is the perfect supplier for every project. No company is. But ignoring their expanded capability because of an old perception is a mistake I made—and I don’t want you to repeat it.

Bottom line: Evolve your supplier perceptions before your competitors do

The industry is changing. Components that were once commoditized are now being integrated into smarter, smaller systems. The supplier who can offer breadth with depth is more valuable than the one who does just one thing well.

TDK has evolved. Maybe you should look again.
