I believe that simple reversal explains most conflicts between engineers and procurement. Procurement sees line items: component price, freight, expedite fee. Engineers see probability: if that TDK part does not arrive on Thursday, what happens to the test calendar? When the penalty for being wrong is high, the fee for being right is cheap.
I did not always believe this. A few years ago, I chose a lower-cost freight broker for an urgent order because the spreadsheet said 95% on-time. - Can the logistics provider confirm that each handoff has happened—including the loadport—or is the status based on a single scan?

When the stall appears between your production line and your customer, stop asking who is cheaper and start asking who can tell me the truth about Friday. The answer will not always be TDK vs another brand. It will be a supplier that treats the loadport as part of the promise, not as an excuse.
I've paid $180 to move a few pennies' worth of TDK ceramic because the alternative was a three-week delay and a broken trust. I would pay it again.
